By August, your costume has seen things. Rain. Sweat. A few close encounters with mud (or worse). But before you write off that torn seam or frayed hem, remember: mid-season care can mean the difference between a costume that limps to the end of the year and one that marches into next season ready for more.
Battle Damage Happens
Even the best-made costumes take a beating. Fabrics stretch, embroidery threads loosen, and leather straps dry out. A missing button might seem small, but leave it long enough and you’re one movement away from an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

Reinforce Now, Avoid Disaster Later
August is the perfect time to check your kit:
- Inspect seams and stitching for any loose threads.
- Check fastenings (ties, buttons, and buckles) and replace anything strained.
- Look at weathered areas like cuffs, hems, and shoulder seams.
For my customers, I offer a mid-season repair and reinforcement service. From re-sewing seams to adding discreet patches in matching fabric, you can deliver your kit to me at the end of one event, and I’ll have it back to you for the next.
