Summer is the heart of the LARP season when months of planning, sewing, and last-minute repairs finally step onto the battlefield. This year’s Empire LRP events have been a riot of colour, grit, and personality. From banners snapping in the wind to battle-worn tunics telling their own stories, I’ve been lucky enough to see Mosswood Studio’s work woven into the fabric of the game.
Banners That Speak Louder Than Words
This season’s banners were more than markers; they were declarations of intent. The Granite Pillar’s inspirational standard for Highguard brought jewel tones and stained glass vibes, and stood proud while being hallowed with true liao and then presented in the Senate.
My group’s hot pink and black banner also hit the field this summer, with a hand-painted chalkboard sign to match.

Characters Brought to Life
It’s one thing to stitch a costume, another to see it owned by its wearer. The worn hems, the smudges of mud, and the way the fabric moves when someone charges across the field, that’s where the real magic happens.

The Real Reward
Yes, it’s satisfying to see my work on the field. But the real reward is hearing the stories afterwards: the banner that became a rallying point, the surcoat that withstood three days of relentless rain, the pouch that never lost its contents during the melee.
